Hi, I'm Daan. I'm a husband, father, veteran, cancer survivor and a regular fulltime idiot who tries to live life to the fullest with my wife and kids.
After being sick for a long time I'm now finding my way back in life. I'm very open minded and don't scare away from talking about sensitive topics in my chat — as long as it's in a respectful manner.
I started my life in games in the early years of gaming — my first game was Pong when it came out, and I've never stopped since. Over the years I've played many different genres, but got caught up in Cities: Skylines and Star Citizen during the lockdowns.
I started streaming because Cities: Skylines gave me the perfect mix between just chatting and gaming. After running into problems with too many mods and assets, I switched to Star Citizen — and found it incredibly relaxed to play and share with you. Even though it's still in Alpha with its quirks and bugs, I genuinely feel it's better than most triple-A games at release.
I also play survival games and currently enjoy ARC Raiders and Windrose — and I love to explore more games along the way.
I run a dual-PC setup — one dedicated to gaming, one dedicated to streaming and encoding. Why? Because you don't want your streaming software competing with your GPU for resources mid-raid. Dedicated encode box means zero stream lag regardless of what's happening in-game. It costs more to set up, but the stream quality difference is night and day.
Starting fresh, I'd invest in better audio first — viewers forgive mediocre video quality far more than bad audio. I'd also go straight to the capture card + dedicated stream PC route from day one rather than trying to run everything on one machine. The dual-PC upgrade made the biggest single improvement to my stream quality. On the gaming side, I wouldn't buy the top GPU — the generation below is always better value/watt.
